Tuesday–Thursday, June 12–14, 9:00 am–4:00 pm, Chiego Lecture Hall, Valero Learning Centers Summer Teacher Institute: Without Borders Packed with iconography, cultural identity, and social messages, Estampas de la Raza: Contemporary Prints from the Romo Collection empowers, educates, and inspires. See works in the upcoming fall exhibition; hear from collectors Harriett and Ricardo Romo, as well as curator Lyle Williams; and work with some of the artists. Create your own screenprints, take a San Antonio mural tour, and investigate curriculum connections. Tuesday, June 12: Collecting Culture Learn about the Romos’ collection of Latino prints and the rich social messages they hold. Make curriculum connections to art and social studies. Wednesday, June 13: Identity & Iconography Explore themes of identity and iconography in the exhibition. Learn to use the art to spark dialogue in the classroom. Sam Coronado, a featured artist and founder of Coronado Studio in Austin, leads a screenprinting workshop. Thursday, June 14: Road Trip Take a road trip to see South San Antonio murals. Learn how this contemporary art form and prints from Estampas de la Raza can excite and challenge your students. Teachers earn 18 hours of continuing professional education credit for attending all three days. Fee (includes picnic lunch on Thursday and museum admission all three days): McNay members $65; nonmembers $75.
