Film And Q&A: Doctor Hollywood (2:00 pm - 5:00 pm)

Screenwriter Carroll Cartwright discusses his life in film, including his work in Jumanji, Pearl Harbor, Where the Money Is, and his latest release, What Maisie Knew (2012). What Maisie Knew reveals the world through a young girl’s eyes as her parents’ marriage dissolves. Directed by Scott McGehee and David Siegel, it stars Julianne Moore, Alexander Skarsgård and Steve Coogan. A reception and Q&A follow the screening.

This program is a collaboration of ARTS San Antonio, Gemini Ink, and the McNay Art Museum.

Now in its 11th season, the CPMF’s Young Artist Program showcases some of San Antonio and South Texas’s finest young classical musicians. Join this year’s talented Young Artist Fellows for a varied program of classical chamber music.

Contemporary Crash Course: Alternating Currents: A Conversation About Beauty (6:30 pm - 7:30 pm)

Art critic and independent curator Lilly Wei moderates a discussion with three artists from the exhibition Beauty Reigns. Kamrooz Aram, Fausto Fernandez, and Jiha Moon, all raised outside the United States, draw inspiration from a range of sources—the decorative arts of the Middle East, hardware, blueprints, emoticons, and Chinese brush painting.

Free Family Day: It’s A Beauty-full Day! (1:00 pm - 4:00 pm)

Beauty takes on many forms at this free family day themed around the exhibition Beauty Reigns: A Baroque Sensibility in Recent Painting. Create patterned, layered paper creations using marbling and dying techniques. Enjoy a multi-sensory tot spot led by the San Antonio Children’s Museum specially designed for children under 5. See color, texture, and pattern in a whole new light during a mysterious and magical performance by Urban-15.

McNay docents offer a free public tour of the feature exhibition the third Sunday of the month. In June, the feature exhibition on view is Beauty Reigns: A Baroque Sensibility in Recent Painting.

Experts Stephennie Mulder, Professor of Islamic Art and Architecture, and Anne Ng and Jeremy Mandrell, Pastry Chefs, present disparate subjects and invite participants to make connections. Summer Jazz & Lunch Series: Zarabande (12:30 - noon - 3:30 pm)

An unforgettable marimba performance! Toro Flores and Zarabande thrill audiences with their brilliant musical expression in this world-class Latin Jazz performance.

Exhibition Talk: Matisse And Picasso (3:00 pm - 4:00 pm)

Though their first meeting was less than cordial, Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso would develop a decades-long relationship built upon mutual respect and a lively discourse about each other’s work. William J. Chiego, Director, and Lyle Williams, Curator, Prints and Drawings, talk about the influence the two 20th-century artists had on one another and discuss how their works in the McNay’s collection are related in terms of form and meaning.
