Audition Announcement Staged reading of The Ballad of Emmitt Till
The McNay Art Museum announces auditions for the staged reading of The Ballad of Emmitt Till by Ifa Bayeza. Vincent Hardy will direct the reading.
Play: A lyrical, fictional retelling of events surrounding Till's short but historically impactful life, the play requires five actors playing 13 characters. Actors audition by reading sides from the play. No monologues are necessary.
Location for auditions: McNay Art Museum, 6000 North New Braunfels Avenue, San Antonio 78209; 210.805.1734. Please use the Stieren Center entrance to the museum.
Times: Saturday, June 2, 1:00 to 5:00 pm; Sunday, June 3,12:30 to 4:30 pm.
Commitments: Approximately ten rehearsals leading up to two performances. Performances are on Thursday September 12, at 6:30 pm, and Sunday, September 16, at 3:00 pm. A panel follows both performances. There is a stipend for performers.

Except for Emmitt, all actors play a variety of the 13 parts, i.e., Mamoo, Emmitt's grandmother; Wheeler, Emmitt's 16-year-old cousin; Heluise, Emmitt's 15-year-old "crush"; Simmy, Moses' son; Maurice Wright,16, Moses' middle son; Miss Elizabeth Wright, Moses' wife; Caroline Bryant, former beauty queen and the woman Emmitt whistles at; Roy Bryant, her husband and storekeeper; J. W. Milam, Caroline's brother-in-law; H. L. Loggins, one of Milam's Boys; Johnny Washington, farm laborer and checker player; Ruthie Mae Crawford, 16, a neighbor of the Crawford's and another "crush" of Emmitt's.
